Charles...you said...I am every bit as cynical of Americans, which is why, I suppose, I’m an avid reader of your stuff.  But I think of the old adage of the frog being tossed into a pot of boiling water.  Is there absolutely nothing that could happen that would force Americans to immediately jump up and act, or are we a nation of frogs sitting comfortably in cold water with the temperature being slowly increased, unaware of the danger that we’re in until it’s too late?

  5. I really look forward to ‘CPR for Dummies’, Mickey!  And I like the poems in today’s post so much that I’ll do some copying and pasting for some of my American acquaintances. 

    So did the ‘Bluestockings’ event go well, Mickey?  The ‘Booktown’ event in Clunes west of Daylesford which was held on 3 and 4 May was indeed a success - apparently between 14,000 and 16,000 visitors crowded into Clunes to visit 50+ bookstalls.

    I’ve been thinking about how to inspire the people to get off the couch.  The movie V For Vendetta jumped into my head.  Maybe we need to mail out Guy Fawkes masks to the general population?
