Occupy Imperfection: Choosing process over purity

  1. HAPPY NATIVE AMERICAN DAY to all…

Good article there Mickey. It answers the question that the media continues to ask: What do the protesters want...Like there is one little issue that would fix everything.

One thing I want is for hard copies of the OWSJ to be in national circulation.  There are still a lot of people who are on the other side of the digital divide. I thought of those people during the rememberances for Steve Jobs.

There has to be a way to include those without enough money for computers, those with no access to ‘community’ computers, etc.  (I just paid $1000 for a new computer system and am still having connectivity issues and am on slow dial-up. I will be paying off this bill till I die.)

  2. Just a few more thoughts...I support the protesters 1000%. BUT maybe the extreme obedience - such as not having tents or megaphones is not the best of strategies. Sooner or later it might be important to let it be known that there is a difference between civil disobedience and obedience to a higher authority.

The elites have money, power, control of the government, control of the military, control of the media… I am not sure that a group of well controlled, polite citizens can win this battle - no matter how large the group is. For many years I have advocated for boycotts and strikes… a total shut-down of everything except essential medical and fire services. It is time to ramp it up - ramp it way up. (For years, many of us have politely asked for an end to the wars. You can see how far those polite requests got us.)

A suggestion for college student protesters...refuse to return to school until your college president accepts a compensation package that is no more than twice that of the college maintenance staffers. Cancel all student debt.

  3. Yes...the people turn on the people instead of directing their animosities toward the criminals, the authorities.

I see letters, angry letters asking what exactly are people protesting about. These people need some authority to tell them..., absolutely NOTHING about this society is worth taking into the next day. Nothing !

The centuries old tradition of rich people abusing all other life forms so that they can be in control is stale, dead, degenerate. The church propping up this centuries old agenda is just as large of a crime and some people still want the church to direct their life. The church and state will be glad to murder anyone.

When is the FBI going to commit crimes so the media can blame these crimes on the protestors?

  4. Joe… I agree.  Here’s one for you. After the big hurricane, no electricity, schools closed, bridges out, roads closed and washed away, massive flooding, horrendous damage, not only homes but also the land they were on gone forever ...  lots of news coverage - FEMA notices all over the place - one day someone asked me: “What’s a FEMA?”.  She honestly did not know.  She had no idea that all around us there was massive destruction.  Being clueless doesn’t mean that you lose your right to vote…

  5. RMJ, it’s a bone isn’t it!

I saw Noam Chomsky talk about Latin America last weekend. At the end he talked more about other things.

He said about climate change(to paraphrase and rely on my memory) that either we’re doomed or we can do something to make it survivable. If we assume that we can do something if we dedicate ourselves to it...then we’ve nothing to lose in trying.

It was being filmed so it will probably be on youtube.

  6. Hi RMJ, Joe and Rick
Hi Mickey I just finished watching the film The End Of Poverty (its on utube for anyone who hasnt seen it).
The bullet point solutions offered at the end of the film were global in nature....debt forgiveness, shifting the tax burden in every country, land reform so that the people who work the land own the land, and an end to privatization of resources. My thoughts are that the only way any of that is going to happen is for a massive shift in consciousness or a complete shredding of the fabric of global society. People will need to shift their priorities. In my limited life experience I have only seen people make radical shifts when things have completely broken down....house burns down people change, loved ones die, life threatening illness , drought, flooding, essentially when they have become so completely uncomfortable or miserable or pained that there is no choice but live or die. we are stubborn enough that most of us need a solid kick in the ass to make even the smallest changes...that being said though i think OWS is a good start in the right direction.
I understand about the reluctance of some Native peoples to join in a national protest...but am not able to articulate my thoughts well enough to share right now.
Thought provoking article to say the least. Thank you.

  10. Debt consolidation companies have the expertise to approach credit card companies and other unsecured loan lenders with a pay off deal that will result in a one time pay off with lowered interest accruement and overall debt reduction.debt consolidation companies
